Capacity

What Is Capacity Depletion? A REIGNITE Perspective

A conceptual framework for the cumulative demand that accumulates long before anything visibly breaks.

Shannon T. White, LCSW-SFounder, REIGNITE Wellness Collective™Published August 2026

Capacity is not the same as time

What accumulates

  • Decisions that only you can make
  • Emotional labor that is unseen and therefore unshared
  • Anticipating needs before they are voiced
  • Holding standards nobody else is holding
  • Being the default contact for crises
  • Spiritual and moral weight carried privately

What capacity depletion is not

Depletion is rarely the result of one large thing. It is the arithmetic of many reasonable ones.

Why the language matters
